WHERE WE PLAY

Our Section plays golf at least once a month, sometimes twice a month, from February to December. We play at clubs in South Auckland and Waikato and when out of our own area, we travel by bus. We raise funds by running Chicken Raffles on a Friday night at the RSA and support from RSA members and our own Golf Section members helps us to run efficiently.

During the year we play for various trophies, the main one being the Canterbury Trophy where the first 32 members qualify to play matchplay with the first round losers moving on to the Canterbury Plate. The second 16 of the 32 qualifiers play in the Canterbury Flight, known as the John Ata Memorial Trophy.

The Papakura R.S.A. sends a team of four to the RNZRSA Nationals each year and we have four qualifying rounds to arrive at the team to represent the Papakura RSA. To be selected, a players needs to be either a Returned or Service Member and affliated to a

GOLF CLUB AFFILIATION

Our Golf Section then sends the next top four qualifiers regardless of membership status but must still be affliated to a Golf Club.

Each time we play, our scores are recorded in other trophies with the best four scores after seven rounds playing off on finals day, which is our Mystery Trip day. We also host an annual Welfare Tournament at the Thames Golf Club and all profit from the day is donated to the Papakura RSA Welfare Section; we play an annual event know as POMP where Papatoetoe, Otahuhu, Manurewa and Papakura contest for the POMP Shield but are now down to just Papatoetoe, Manurewa & ourselves since Otahuhu RSA no longer exists; we have an annual haggle against the Papakura Club Inc., for the Shell Trophy plus we endeavour to support other RSA’s when they hold their tournaments.

To be a member of our Section, you must be a financial member of the Papakura R.S.A. and our subscription is currently $5.00 a year. Those who are not affiliated to a Golf Club can join our Section and play in the daily haggle but cannot participate in the above competitions. Please feel free to catch up with members of the Golf Section on a Friday night or contact any of the following Committee members.
